John F. Leyden entered the Steuben County race for family court judge as a family practice attorney with little public recognition. In a four-candidate primary, we boosted his vote share by almost 20 points. Steuben County encompasses a rural section of New York State larger than the state of Rhode Island. Media coverage is divided between several markets, and required a savvy media buy featuring network affiliate and cable TV, print and outdoor ads -- and lots of personal appearances. We were faced with an added obstacle of a very well known competitor with a similar last name. We provided media training and key message filtering which exceeded many of the campaign objectives.

We feel fortunate that John and Diane Leyden were referred to us to handle his campaign communications. The biggest chalenge was geography. We're an hour away from Steuben County, and almost three hours from the opposite end. Our primary media consisted of three TV outlets, six small or mid-market newspapers, several radio stations and aggressive competition from three other candidates.
Our most effective triumph was in media relations, where John succeeded in honing his messages to meaningful sound bites.
