BUDDY SYSTEM CONTINUES SPORTS VENUE CLIMB
AT NHL'S ALL-STAR GAME THIS WEEKEND IN RALEIGH
NHL, RBC Arena Join Other Major Events and Venues as Food Safety Leaders

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 26, 2011) – The ice surface at Raleigh's RBC Arena will be kept at a constant 22 degrees for the National Hockey League All-Star Weekend January 28-30. The ice cream served in the concession stands will not. The Buddy System, an ice cream cone holder that reduces messy drips, sticky hands and transmission of harmful germs, viruses and bacteria on ice cream cones, will be served at all NHL events this weekend, announced Robert C. Sotile, president and CEO of The Buddy Cone Systems, Inc.

“Adding the Buddy System cone to a concessions operation is like putting two goalies in the nets,” Mr. Sotile said. “Bacteria and germs can't get past our polystyrene cone holder, plus it catches drips to keep the concourse floors, arena seats and fans' hands and clothes clean.”

Designed as a food safety device to provide a barrier between dirty hands, airborne germs and the edible ice cream cone, the polystyrene sheath also features a reservoir to catch drips and reduce the need for paper napkins. The cost is just under three pennies per Buddy, a cost that Mr. Sotile says most venues make up in savings for paper napkins. About 35 million Buddies are distributed globally each year, making it the most popular food safety product for frozen confections in the world.

VAB Catering, the concessionaire for the RBC Arena, ordered 14,000 Buddy cones for the All-Star events, Mr. Sotile said.
Other stadiums and arenas that have used the Buddy System include Bank of America Stadium (Carolina Panthers), Sun Life Stadium (Miami Dolphins), the Saddledome (Calgary) and the Georgia Dome (Atlanta). Cleanliness and customer satisfaction are the reasons most concession companies give for employing the Buddy System, Mr. Sotile says.

Patented in 1998, the Buddy System won the 2001 Ameristar Award as North America's best food safety product, and now serves customers in 14 countries at thousands of ice cream single-unit and chain stores, including Dairy Queen, Carvel, Tastee Freez, Stew Leonard's, Subway, Royal Caribbean's Oasis cruise ship, der Wienerschnitzel, Hamburger Stand and Culver's Butter Burgers and Frozen Custard. The Buddy System was served at Super Bowl XLIV, and many other various stadiums and arenas. Company headquarters and manufacturing are in Rochester, N.Y.
